Will we have the same rapport with robots and computers that we do with humans? Many technologists think so, although they predict that there are still many years –or even centuries– until this day arrives. But Raymond Kurzweil, one of the most renowned technologists and specialists in artificial intelligence in the world, is convinced that there will be no distinction between machines and humans within a few years.

Kurzweil, author of the books ‘The Age of Intelligent Machines‘ and ‘The Singularity is Near‘ usually generates controversy, but he has a strong reputation behind him to support his theories:

* he was selected as one of the 18 most influential great thinkers by the US National Academy of Engineering to identify the greatest technological challenges facing humanity in the 21st century
* he is one of the five members of the Army Science Advisory Group which advises the US army on scientific research priorities
* he received the Lemelson-MIT Prize, awarded to the world’s most noteworthy inventors, and a range of other technological prizes from various presidents of the United States; he predicted several years in advance the emergence and spread of the Internet and the victory in chess of a computer against a world champion (Kasparov lost against Deep Blue in 1996).

In this edition of Redes, Kurzweil explains to Punset why he thinks that, within less than 40 years, humanity will transcend biology to merge with technology. The changes that we will experience over the coming years will be radical and will exceed anything that any sci-fi author could have imagined.
